After immense speculation and conflicting reports over the past week following Fitbit’s acquisition of Pebble Smartwatches, Fitbit has announced they will continue to support service updates for Pebble Health and Core Functionalities of the Pebble Smartwatch line of wearables.
This is great news for current Pebble smartwatch owners, who have lived under a cloud of uncertainty over the past month during both the speculation of the Fitbit fitness tracker giant’s rumored takeover of Pebble and the potential impact on receiving service updates for Pebble wearables.
Last week when Fitbit announced they had acquired key personnel and software from Pebble but were not including hardware (Pebble smartwatches), we reported the Pebble smartwatch customer backlash on the horizon.

The announcement that manufacturing had ceased and the shutdown of customer support hotlines indicated that service updates would not be provided in the future, virtually resulting in the slow death of Pebble Smartwatches ongoing core functionality.
We are pleased that this no longer seems to be the case and Fitbit will be continuing supporting software and service updates. Pebble SDK, CloudPebble, Timeline API’s, mobile apps, firmware availability, Pebble App Store, and the developer portal will continue to remain in service for the near future.
This will be a welcome holiday message for all the Pebble Smartwatch customers that may have one of these wearables stuffed in their stocking.
These essential updates will ensure the core Pebble functions continue to operate with Pebble Smartwatches ticking through 2017.
