Looking for an amazing virtual reality experience?
One of the challenges in reviewing VR technology is trying to convey the immersive 360 perception that is really an individual journey. You can read about the Playstation VR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive, but until you put on the headset and are transported to a virtual universe, it is really difficult to describe.
MK2 VR may have the answer for those on the fence in trying to decide what virtual reality system is right for them. This is the first dedicated VR experience facility featuring video games, documentaries, and films to give the users the opportunity to try out the different systems in a cool VR pod environment.
They even have made it “hip cool” by offering a tiki bar for a cocktail while waiting for your dedicated VR pod to become available.
Are you an adrenaline junkie looking to take virtual reality to the next level?
MK2 VR offers a 3000 square foot area that features a circular layout of pods with a Birdly flying motion simulator with Holodia rowing trainers for those aficionados racing fans.
Here is a preview of experiences you can expect for your visit:
Holofit and Birdly offer a motion simulator which take the virtual reality experience to a mind blowing level as you choose between:
“The Walk”: which is not for the afraid of heights user, you are 1,000 feet above Manhattan on a gangplank that will leave you completely breathless as you soar above the clouds traversing from one skyscraper to the other.
Space Pirate Trainer”: Immerse yourself inside the ultimate arcade game fighting off droids coming at you from every virtual turn. This game is also available on Oculus Touch if you want to do a direct comparison between the two systems on the same game-the ultimate way to compare the two on a similar platform.
REVIEW: THE HTC VIVE VR SYSTEM, A MAGICAL TALE OF TWO MOMENTS IN TIME
Be sure the check out the 3D video produced by MK2 and Parisian VR studio Felix and Paul “Introduction to VR”. Once you have experienced the film then get on to the main feature games:
“The Climb”: This is designed exclusively for the recently released Touch Motion Controllers as you become a rock climber dangling by your fingertips with a backdrop of breathtaking scenery. The Climb ranks your end score based on both the duration of your climb and your technical ability.
“Homebound Joyride” by Quixel: This virtual reality bone chilling ride is for all the space junkies out there. Immerse yourself in the cold void of deep space as disaster strikes. You need to make it out alive if you dare!
REVIEW – OCULUS RIFT: YOUR CUBICAL CLASS, TETHERED VR TICKET TO FLIGHTS OF FANCY
We can’t forget the grand master of virtual reality gaming systems, and neither has MK2 VR. If you want to check out a few of Sony’s master virtual reality mind twists, we recommend:
Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: Mission X-Wing VR: This new mission is released for the holidays by PlayStation VR for free to all owners of Star Wars Battlefront. So if you can’t make it to Paris-you can travel to the next frontier via PS4 VR piloting an X-wing fighter jet or speeder bike on your next mission. You can’t beat that for a Sunday lounge session!
Ocean Descent VR: If going to space is enough to turn your stomach, why not head in the opposite direction and go deep sea in this new virtual reality heart stopper. If alien attacks or the dark force of Star Wars are too much, take on the ultimate hunter of the sea in this simulated dive and shark attack adventure. This game is sure to keep your pulse racing as you plunge the depths of the deep dark sea in a suspended shark cage with amazing marine life surrounding you in terrific 360 degree high definition.
Assassin’s Creed VR: This is a showstopper theme based experience being released to promote the upcoming Michael Fassbender film due for release later this month. To be clear, this isn’t a game but more of an interactive headset nail biting virtual reality show stopper puts you right in the middle of the Spanish Inquistion. Assassin’s Creed VR will also be available for Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard to mass market the promotion of the film, but the best viewing platform will definitely be the PlayStation Virtual Reality system!
CHECK OUT: SONY PLAYSTATION 4 VIRTUAL REALITY REVIEW
What is all this going to set you back?
You are looking at shelling out €12 for 20 minutes, or €20 (around $25) for 40 minutes so a bit more than a standard movie ticket. Once you pay the price of admission, a big bonus is that you are free to check out any games or sims you want.
This in our opinion is where the real value proposition kicks in for you. This provides an excellent opportunity to test drive three major virtual reality systems, PlayStation 4 VR, Facebook backed Oculus Rift, and the HTC Vive. These are major investments starting at $400 and reaching up to several thousand dollars for a fully fitted out VR systems.
We have researched to see if there are any theaters outside of Europe taking up this great package, but have been unable to identify any. If you happen to know a local cinema that offers a similar deal, please reach out and let us know.
Happy VR’ing kids!
