We have all loved a song but have no idea what it is…we end up singing a bar or two to our friends so they can let us know what it is followed by da da da da da.  One of the coolest Prime Music feature is using Alexa Voice Commands to find a song you don’t even know the title or artist of your favorite tune.

How-To-Guide: Basic Voice Commands for Playing Your Music on Amazon Echo:

While Amazon’s Alexa can perform complex and personalized searches, these are the Main Alexa Voice Commands you will be using on a daily basis with your Amazon Echo:

  1. Request a specific station: “Alexa, play [artist] radio on Spotify.”  You will be prompted to create a station if you don’t have one already.  We will show you how-to-do this later in the article for your specific music service (Amazon, Spotify, Pandora)
  2. Create a specific personalized station: “Alexa, create a [artist] station.”
  3. Use Alexa’s Thumbs up or Thumbs Down: “Alexa, Thumb up this song” or “Alexa, Thumb down this song.”
  4. Skip songs you don’t want to hear: “Alexa, skip this song.”
  5. Control basic functions of music playback: “Alexa, Pause/Stop/Play music.”
  6. Control volume up or down to get it just right: “Alexa, volume up,” or “Alexa, volume down.”

Here’s how Amazon Alexa works with specific playlist requests:

To find that elusive song with Amazon Alexa, just ask, “Alexa, play the song that goes [insert song lyric fragment here],” or, “Alexa, play the song with the lyrics [insert song lyric fragment here]”

If the song you are trying to find is included in Prime Music, Amazon Alexa will find your song and play it for you.

Here are a few more voice commands to try: “Alexa, play the most popular rock ballads of the 80s,” or “Alexa, play the most popular country songs of the 70’s”

With these voice commands, Amazon’s Alexa will organize a playlist closely matching your requested description from Prime Music.

Important Note: Amazon Alexa Voice control is currently not supported for Mac OS X devices (such as MacBook Air)

Apple Music currently can’t be controlled through the Alexa app. There is a workaround for Apple users as the Amazon Echo is also a Bluetooth speaker, so you can use it with Apple Music via Bluetooth.

We hope you have gained valuable information in the How-To-Set-Up Amazon Music Guide for the Amazon Alexa App.

We are confident you will have many good times ahead enjoying the customization options that Amazon Echo offers.
